Are you a giver or a taker?

A nice TED talk from Adam Grant: Are you a giver or a taker? (I'm a giver)

Women working full-time - part-time, it's never okay

According to a recent study dutch women work part-time, even if they don't have kids.

So what!

Live and let live.

There are women who work less by own choice and take less salary for granted.
There are women who work freelance.
There are women who want to be a stay home mother (which is a job also).
There are women who want to get married and stay home.

I am a single mother. From I guess age 15 I work. Until I got my daughter I worked 5 days a week. After I got my daughter I worked for a couple of years 4 day a week, than 4,5 days a week or 5 days a week. Do I want this? No I have to. We need the money.

On one hand women who work part-time by own choice get a lot of criticism: they are lazy, they are spoiled.
On the other hand I have to defend myself constantly because I work full-time: I pity your daughter, you're never available for her.

Hidden mothers and post-mortem Daguerreotypes

Hidden mothers: In the Victorian times mothers hid behind veils for the long exposure Daguerreotypes of their kids. Creepy shit!

The post-mortem Daguerreotypes ... well, you can imagine what that was. A Daguerreotype of the deceased. These photo's were not as expensive as a painting. And to be honest, these photo's are very interesting to look at.

Sex - Talk About It Before They Do

How long are we using internet? Exactly. Now this is a recent commercial on dutch television. "Talk about sex with your kid before they do". On which planet did these people live? My daughter turned 16 last February. When she was a toddler I started to check internet, social media, MSN et cetera. To see what was going on there. Yeah ... I found out ... a lot of assholes over there. When she was bigger and allowed on the computer with me I never had a child lock / family filter on it. They only get more curious. Child locks / Family filter are for lazy parents. I explained everything to her. And to be honest, a porn website is easier to explain than why people are fighting in the Middle East. The first social media she was allowed to use when she was 10-11 years old was the dutch Hyves. Me and a couple of friends were on her friends list. She knew that I controlled it. Showed her the weirdo's, explained everything. When she was 13 she was allowed to have a Facebook account.

Sometimes when I tell her friends that they have to be careful with selfies, posts et cetera because nothing 'disappears' on the internet they look at me as if I tell them there's life on Mars. They don't know. I don't understand. And now, after all these years the government think of this commercial. Wow!

OMG ... WTF ...

Baby branding. Some hospitals did this in 1938. Branding the initials of the parents on the baby's skin with ultraviolet light. Who came up with this bright idea??!!

Photogenic Princess

Why taking family pictures ... to remember events or to create events? Nice!

"Japanese photographer Nagano Toyokazu has been taking photos of his daughter Kanna since the day she was born. At first Toyakazu was just taking photos to capture family memories, but fast forward three years later, and the duo is now a Flickr sensation. Toyokazu's Flickr followers had the privilege of watching Kanna grow up over the past few years, and in an email interview with NPR Tovakazu explains "When I started, I was taking photos with a camera in order to keep family memories, but I now take photos to create family memories." Tovakazu's newest collection titled 'Photogenic Princess,' is a series of shots taken of Kanna wearing various costumes and acting out hilarious scenes. Not only does this series capture the delightful personality of a young girl, but also tells a heart-warming story of the special relationship between a father and daughter."

Awh!!!!!!!

Photographer Jill Greenberg gives kids a lollipop, takes it away ... et voila!

"Jill Greenberg “The Manipulator” is one of the more popular photographers of her era, however she is also one of the most controversial ones too. Her exhibit, called End Times, shows photos of various kids crying as if something terrible had happened. The pieces were titled to reflect Greenberg’s frustration with the government and Christian Fundamentalism in the United States"

Babies Like Darth Vader

If Dart Vader is coming to Netherlands I would think about getting myself a TomTom.

TomTom's GaGa project. TomTom experts have found a solution to stop babies crying in the backseat. For a safe and stress-free journey, let Darth Vader entertain your baby in the backseat. A TomTom navigation voice, guaranteed to make your baby happy!

This Baby Rocks

A toddler rock climbing a wall. After watching this video I was thinking: "oh yeah, it's scary" ... my first thoughts about this is that it's surreal. The way the toddler moves it looks like a grown-up in a diaper.
