Can cities become conscious?

After watching this video I think they can. The question is if politics and corporates want it?! You have to combine architecture, technology and neuroscience. It's all available.

The Halfbike

The Halfbike, an alternative to the traditional bicycle. Developed by Arizona based company Kolelinia (architects Martin Angelov and Mihail Klenov) for urban travel. They describe it as a 'low-tech version of the Segway'. I have to get used to this, but at least it looks better than the Segway.

Symptom Of Big Cities

This one is about New York City, feeling lonely in a city of 8,336,615 inhabitants. But this works in every big city in the (Western) world.

"The paradox of feeling lonely in a city of 8 million. A visual monologue."

Directed by Paul Riccio.

Mr Thoms

Very nice and fun street art by Mr Thoms. Every city needs a Mr Thoms of their own.

Albert Heijnstein

This photo was taken by a friend of mine (Thanks Yam). Very good. A bit dutch, so I shall try to explain. In fact it only needs one explanation. Albert Heijn is the biggest supermarket in the Netherlands. This is their logo:

Or better their old logo. If you want to see their new one, just Google it.

As I already thought, this is the only explanation it needs.

Urban Landscapes

Sander Meisner's photo's of abandoned urban spaces are interesting. A contradiction. The urban spaces are abandoned, but the photo's look 'warm' because of the colors. Make sure to check them all.

Seedbomb Vending Machine

The Seedbomb Vending Machine. A very cool idea ... throw and grow.

"Created by greenaid and made from mixture of clay, compost, and seeds, 'seedbombs' are becoming an increasingly popular. They can be thrown anonymously into these derelict urban sites to temporarily reclaim and transform them into places worth looking at and caring for. The Greenaid dispensary simply makes these guerilla gardening efforts more accessible to all by appropriating the existing distribution system of the quarter operated candy machine."
