Social media vs Reality - The Insta Lie

Insta Lie (verb): an intentionally false representation of real life on social media. Examples include:

1.) Tagging an edited and made-up selfie with #IWokeUpLikeThis;
2.) Taking a million selfies before deciding on just one to post as #Effortless 😕;
3.) Going all the way to Starbucks, buying a coffee and opening up your Macbook - taking a photo of your #WorkSpace, closing your Macbook and then going back home;
4.) Using filters to edit your travel photos - making them literally look #Unreal.

Is Social Media Social?

This is a very difficult question. I think it depends how you use it. I agree with this short film 'Look Up'. A lot of people with loads of friends are probably very lonely. And communicating on social media or WhatsApp or whatever is always lame. No facial expression, no body language, no eyes. And yes it's difficult to NOT get addicted to you laptop, mobile phone. But on the other hand, it's a good way to stay in touch with people you know who don't live in the same city. It's nice to get to know new people. It's a good tool to market yourself. In short, the answer, always evaluate how you're using it.

Out-Of-The-Box Way To Clean Up Your 'Fans'

I like this one. Burger King (Home of the Whopper) Norway had about 38.000 fans on Facebook. A lot of them were fan for the 'wrong' reason. They created the 'Sellout' campaign and gave each fan a choice. Or you are a real fan ... and got redirected to a new Facebook page, or you are a sellout. Banned for the rest of your life on the Facebook page of Burger King but as a reward you got a free Big Mac. A couple of weeks later: 30.000 'fans' lost, but left was a group Burger King could really target. Nice!

Jack Vale's Social Media Experiment

Jack Vale grabbed info from different social media like Twitter, Instagram ... Relatively easy to do, but definitely do-able. People don't realize this is possible, they were freaking out. Think about what and why and when you post people. (pfff this is tiresom)
