Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, the father of the X-rays, won the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 with his X-ray 'Hand mit Ringen'. It was the hand of his wife, who after seeing this photo said 'I've seen death' and never set a foot in his lab again.
