"Ernst Haeckel (February 16, 1834 - August 9, 1919) was a physician, anatomist, zoologist, naturalist, biologist and artist who is perhaps best know for his law of recapitulation, which proposed that "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny". Heackel also coined terms such as phylum, phylogeny and ecology. The artwork included in this gallery are illustration plates from Haeckel's book Kunstformen der Natur (Artforms of Nature), published in 1904."
